Dr. Taeil Kim is a Professor in the Department of Periodontology at the Seoul National University School of Dentistry, where he has served on the faculty since 2004. He earned his DDS, MSD, and PhD from Seoul National University (SNU), completed his Certificate in Dentistry there, and broadened his academic horizons through a period as a visiting student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.
Upon completing his clinical training at the Seoul National University Hospital, he concurrently held the positions of Chief Dental Officer and Chief Surgeon of the Corps Medical Unit at the Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command Headquarters before joining the SNU faculty. Dr. Kim’s academic career also includes a visiting scholarship at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, where he engaged in interdisciplinary research bridging biomedical science and engineering. He has held senior leadership roles—including Vice Dean of the SNU School of Dentistry and Executive Director of the SNU Foundation—and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science.
His research spans artificial intelligence applications in biomedicine, periodontal tissue engineering, biomaterials for regeneration, and biomimetic approaches to dental implantation. Dr. Kim’s contributions have been recognized with the Young Investigator’s Award from the Korean Academy of Periodontology and the Korea–Japan Biomaterials Research Award. He has published extensively, presented internationally, and remains committed to advancing the integration of biology, engineering, and clinical science in service of improved patient care and societal well-being.
